Gaa Gallery Provincetown is pleased to present Ripe Bananas, new photographs by Kenneth Dunne. This exhibition will run June 24 - July 13. Please join us for an opening reception on Friday, June 24 from 6 - 8pm.

Kenneth Dunne is a New York City based photographer whose work investigates the distinction between the natural, the artificial, and the production of spectacle. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1992 and graduated from the Bard College Photography Department in 2014. 

Dunne’s work explores the historicity of objects translated through surface and veneer. His images channel our cultural seduction for the ideal and traces the transmogrification of the once hallowed. These meditations of embodied perfection express an acquiescence to the un-ease in our culture. Through his images the statuesque becomes ephemera, stacked and ordered, Venus in plastic.

In Ripe Bananas Dunne taps into our passive acceptance for the simulacrum. His photographs are at once haunting and familiar reminders of acquiescence amidst garish spectacle. The ephemera transformed by Dunne highlights a culture of commodious serenity. Yet for all this he presents his investigations in a beautifully choreographed formal approach. The images themselves becoming objects of desire. In doing so Dunne forces us to face the dilemma that only the copy survives and that which is natural is fated to disintegrate with time. In Dunne’s hands great natural monuments face the same fate as blemishing fruit.
