Rodney Dickson (b. 1956, Northern Ireland) is a Brooklyn-based artist who works primarily as a painter, creating artwork that is marked by substantive layering, maximal application, and strong color content. Fundamentally influenced by the sociopolitical strife of his childhood years in Northern Ireland, Dickson's work is a departure from the narratives of portraiture. Rather, his work explores the conceptual and physical terrains of conflict, retreat, and rebirth. Dickson has traveled extensively in China, Vietnam, and most recently, Taiwan, where he completed a 2015 artist residency in Taipei's Luzhu Village, and later produced three-dimensional works inspired by the glow and pulse of the city. He is the recipient of a Pollock Krasner Award and a Ford Foundation Artist Grant, and has exhibited his work in solo exhibitions at John Davis Gallery in Hudson, New York, NUNU Fine Art in Taipei, Taiwan, and Gasser Grunert in New York City. Dickson's work is held in numerous public collections, including the Hanoi Art Center in Hanoi, Vietnam; Arts Council of Northern Ireland in Belfast, Ireland; Arts Council Of Great Britain in Manchester, England; Ulster Museum in Belfast, Northern Ireland; and the Palmer Museum of Art in Pennsylvania.

Gaa Gallery is pleased to announce the painting exhibitions Against Forgetting I, opening Friday, May 25 in Provincetown (through July 10) and Against Forgetting II, opening Saturday, May 26 in Wellfleet (through July 1). Against Forgetting is a thoughtful and aesthetically diverse meditation on the medium of painting, and its accompanying capabilities to convey an array of ideas regarding memory and representation.
Please join us for opening receptions in Provincetown on Friday, May 25 from 6 - 9pm and in Wellfleet on Saturday, May 26 from 5 - 7pm.
Many congratulations to Rodney Dickson who recently received a 2018 Pollock-Krasner award. In January Rodney was also a participant and resident at the Fresh Winds International Art Biennale in Iceland.

The exhibition will run concurrently with Art Cologne and will be the gallery's first exhibition in Germany. The Gaa Gallery Project Space is located at Große Brinkgasse 8, 50670 Cologne, Germany and will be open from Sunday, April 10 - Tuesday, April 12 and Thursday, April 14 - Sunday, April 17 from 10am - 7pm with a reception and brunch Saturday, April 16 from 10am - 2pm. Parking is available across the street at the Parkhaus Bazaar de Cologne on Große Brinkgasse 11.
